Perched on a hill in Algiers, Notre Dame d'Afrique is a splendid basilica combining Byzantine and Moorish influences, with a striking white dome visible for miles. It was completed in 1872 and is famed for its message of religious harmony inscribed behind the altar: 'Our Lady of Africa, pray for us and for the Muslims'.
