A stretch of black sand shaped by volcanic activity, Muriwai Beach is known for its powerful surf and the gannet colony nesting on its rugged cliffs. From September to April, around 1,200 pairs of gannets create a lively spectacle, filling the air with their calls and nesting rituals.
