About Jioufen

Jioufen, once a gold mining town, now thrives on tourism with its narrow streets winding up a mountain. The town's charm comes from its historic buildings and tea houses, many of which still use the architecture of the Japanese occupation. Visitors flock to Jioufen for the Old Street, where food stalls serve local snacks and shops sell souvenirs, not to mention the views over the sea. Just down the road, Shifen Waterfall draws in those looking for a bit of nature in the mix, though good luck finding a quiet spot. The legacy of its mining past hangs in the air, but today, it's the food and scenic vistas that keep people wandering the steep paths.

Who it's for

Great for people who enjoy local snacks, scenic views, and don’t mind crowds. Not ideal for anyone seeking a tranquil retreat or extensive shopping opportunities, as the streets can be quite packed with other tourists and the hills are unforgiving on the feet.
