Elephants Come Down to the River
Only The interior pans must dry out to force the herds to the river; a long or late wet season keeps them dispersed inland
Access: guided
Where to see it
- Chobe National Park — primary_viewing
- Linyanti — primary_viewing
Chobe holds an estimated 50,000 elephants, and as the inland pans dry out the herds crowd onto the Chobe and Linyanti river frontage. From a boat you sit at eye level with animals drinking and swimming across.
