What to eat, not just where to go

Most travel advice tells you where to eat. Far less of it tells you what to order once you are sitting down, which is the part that goes wrong — a menu in a language you do not read, and a safe choice you could have had at home.

So every city carries its dishes as well as its places.

1,974 dishes

Each one says what it actually is, what it tastes like, how it is eaten, and why it matters where it comes from. Not a name on a list — enough to order it with some confidence and know what is arriving.

Found where you need it

On the city page, beside what to see. The dish and the place to try it belong to the same afternoon, so they sit together rather than in separate sections you would have to think to visit.

Written for the city they belong to rather than generated on request, which is why a city has a handful of real ones instead of an endless list.
